Today marks the end of our Disability Technology Spotlight Series. We were both staggered at the amount of people who applied to be interviewed for the series as well as the response to all the episodes we put out. From the first episode with historian Rae Gillibrand to our finale with Damien Williams, not to mention the numerous overflow episodes with people who reached out after seeing the prompts on social media, every one of them was a pleasure to record!
We kicked the episode off with a History Lesson all about pre-modern prosthetics where Lucy told us all about how she’d bejazzle a prosthetic hand if she needed one!

Episode two was all about artificial intelligence where Alice couldn’t help but get her political boots on and rage about the inequalities of the world

Lucy was incredibly proud to have included Helen, an AAC user, for an extra episode in the series and said “We are so passionate about including all of the voices that make up our community on this show.”

For episode four Alice and Lucy reflected on how much technology has helped isolated people find a place in online communities, particularly for those of us into gaming!

And in the last episode in the series Alice and Lucy manoeuvred around the academic approaches to disability and technology, learning about what current research is focusing on as well as how scientists used disabled people and the latest medical interventions to help get humans into space!
A big thanks to our team
It takes an army to produce these Spotlight Series – it’s why we usually only release episodes every two weeks – there’s a lot of man-hours needed to plan and coordinate recordings, get them edited and set up for release as well as sorting out the transcriptions and image/video descriptions. Everyone who works at lABLEd does it for free, volunteering their precious time, and we couldn’t make the show at all without their generosity and support.
A huge thank you particularly to Adam Hull our wonderful editor who has been working flat out to meet the tight release deadlines for this series.
We’d also like to say a big thank you to all the guests who provided us with such fantastic interviews that have made this series our most successful yet! Incuding our bonus bit contributors, Jon and Devin
If you enjoyed the series and want to help us continue to make insightful. Entertaining and occasionally ridiculous content about life with a disability, chronic illness or health difference, then you can show your support by donating to our GoFundMe.
Donations help to cover the costs of producing the show, and as we’re already starting to talk about next year’s Spotlight Series, we really value even the smallest contributions.
You can also show your support for the show by leaving a review on Apple Podcasts. And of course, sharing the show on social media also really helps to raise our profile amongst new potential audiences.
We are incredibly grateful for all our listeners and particularly appreciative of you, our mailing list subscribers, who come back time and again to learn more about what the podcast is doing, hear extra bits from our guests and generally remind us that all the hard work is worth it!
