Ian Wyille: Guest Update

Our previous guest, Para Sailor Ian Wyllie sent us an update on his adventures from his boat!!

Sailing Trilleen is currently stuck in Inverness. Disabled if you like. During the launching process, a big crane hit her mast and bent it. Sailboats don’t sail right when their rig is bent and the degree of bend suggests that there’s a risk the mast might not be safe to sail with. So I’m stuck in Inverness negotiating with insurance companies and the boatyard to sort that out.

Unfortunately, it’s not going to be a small delay as masts have long lead times and this isn’t the best time of year to need a re-rig.

If the mast comes good in time I’ll finish the circumnavigation of the UK and Ireland this year which is supporting the Andrew Cassell Foundation which helps disabled people get to maximum independence on the water. Otherwise, I’ll probably take Trilleen down to the South Coast and then restart the challenge next year.

I’ve discovered that sailing is incredibly therapeutic for me and I know that I need to keep doing it, so it’s certain that I’ll keep going and be looking for new projects when I finally manage to finish this one.

If you think that sailing might be the sort of activity which would benefit you then please contact the Andrew Cassell Foundation – acfsailing.org or ping me an email via my website sailingtrilleen.org
